Deuxd Stereo X-Mod VCF for Eurorack

The Mehr Music Machines Deuxd puts two fully featured voltage-controlled filters in a 12HP Eurorack module. Process stereo signals, turn a mono source into two differently filtered outputs, or explore audio-rate modulation and gritty saturation.

Building on the character of the Poodleface filter section, Deuxd combines dual OTA-style filters with selectable highpass and lowpass responses, flexible internal routing and a shared cutoff control. Sweep both channels together or move them in opposite directions for expressive stereo sound design.

Filter and Stereo Control Features

  • Two OTA-style VCFs: each has dedicated cutoff, resonance and lowpass/highpass controls.
  • Global cutoff knob: controls both filters, with the individual frequency knobs acting as offsets. Set the global knob to noon for full sweeping control from the individual knobs.
  • SYNC and OPPOSE modes: move both cutoffs in parallel or make the right filter move opposite to the left, using the global knob or its cutoff CV input.
  • Independent and summed outputs: process channels separately or combine both filters into a mono signal at the SUM output.
  • Dirty/Filthy saturation: choose between two diode-clipping paths on the SUM output.

Cross-Modulation and Audio-Rate FM

Each filter has its own cutoff CV input and an attenuated FM input. The FM input is normalled to the opposite channel's audio input for audio-rate frequency modulation; patching an external source into the FM jack breaks that connection.

The X-mod knob simultaneously routes filter 1's output to filter 2's cutoff and filter 2's output to filter 1's cutoff. Explore interacting filter textures and cross-modulated timbres without building the entire routing externally.

Flexible Patching and Signal Routing

Filter 1's audio input is normalled to filter 2's input, allowing one source to feed both filters. Use the separate outputs for mono-to-stereo processing or the SUM output for twin-peak resonances.

For a variable-width bandpass filter, patch the left output into the right input and set one filter to highpass and the other to lowpass.
